    • Improving the quality of food and its timings (if followed diligently over a period of 6 months) will be of help here. I will give you 3 key cleansing drinks that you should focus on daily. The first is a drink made by boiling water with 1 tsp jeera, half an inch of crushed ginger, a pinch of haldi and a few tulsi leaves for 10 min. You may also add a squeeze of lemon to enhance its flavour. Remember to go for a walk daily and have this drink after coming back. The 2nd cleanse is a shot of wheatgrass juice which you can have after your breakfast. The 3rd beverage is a hydrating drink- a simple glass of buttermilk with 1 tsp of flaxseed powder that you can have around the evening. Once you start these 3 cleanses daily, over a course of 6 months- your blood sugar will be better controlled and your sexual life will also improve.

    • In order to better control your sugar levels from a food perspective, you need to ensure its quality is high (as in nutrient-dense) and timings are maintained. Always aim to have freshly made meals, preferably at home, using natural ingredients. Avoid any packaged junk food like noodles, chips, etc. When planning for the weekly menu, sit down and discuss with your family, what they would like to see in the upcoming week’s menu, and ensure, you include fruits, vegetables (for vitamins, minerals and fibre), whole wheat cereals and grains (for good quality carbohydrates) and high biological value proteins (like your milk, eggs, paneer, tofu). Your focus should be to eat 2 fruits and 3 vegetables daily. In the vegetable category, ensure one is a green leafy veg. When having milk, make sure its low – fat or double-toned milk. When having rice – make sure it’s red rice or brown rice, as it will help prevent a sudden surge of sugar in your blood. When having chapathi make sure it’s whole-wheat or Raagi/ Jowar/ Bajra Chapathi. These changes over time ( 6 months of more) will definitely help in controlling your blood sugar and lessen your dependence on Insulin.


    • With regard to diabetes and stress, you need to understand that these two factors are very closely related. When we get stressed, our hormones undergo a huge surge, especially the negative hormones such as cortisol. When cortisol enters the bloodstream, it taps the protein stores making them release glucose through gluconeogenesis in the liver. Now, for diabetics, who already have unregulated sugar in their blood, this new glucose coming into the bloodstream is an added burden. So, aim to reduce the stresses in your life through breathing exercises and calming techniques.
