It is popularly known as ‘amrita’ in Ayurveda, which means the root of immortality. It has innumerable benefits, as stated in the Ayurveda. The scientific name of Giloy is Tinospora Cordifolia. It is also known as Guduchi in Hindi. Its stem is highly nutritious. Preparation time: 5 minutes


  • Giloy Stem: 12 inches long
  • Water: 2 cups


  • Take a piece of the giloy stem. Wash and peel it off. 
  • Cut it into small pieces.
  • Before putting them in the grinder, crush them in a mortar and pestle.
  • Then, add some water and mix them in the grinder.
  • Strain it with the help of a muslin cloth. 
  • Your juice is ready!

You can consume the juice twice a day. However, it is recommended to drink it in the morning and evening. Use half the ingredients if you want to drink the juice once. Similarly, increase the amounts as per the number of family members.

Preparation time: 10 minutes


  • Water: 2 glasses 
  • Clove: 5 pcs
  • Cinnamon: 1 small pcs
  • Black pepper: 5 pcs 
  • Crushed Ginger: 1 small pc 
  • Giloy powder (dry): 1 tbsp
  • Mint leaves: 15-20 
  • Honey: 1 tbsp


  • Boil some water and add cloves, cinnamon and black pepper.
  • Cover the vessel to protect the pleasant smell.
  • Add the remaining ingredients one by one while stirring.
  • The colour of the water will change as you add dry giloy powder.
  • Boil the mixture for a couple of minutes to absorb the essence of the ingredients.
  • Turn off the flame and remove the mixture.
  • Let it cool down. Then strain it when the mixture is at room temperature.
  • Mix some honey and mix it well.

  • Fennel seeds: ½ tbsp 
  • Honey: 2 tbsp 


  • Wash the giloy stick and cut them into pieces.
  • Then, crush them with a mortar pestle and set them aside.
  • Boil some water in a pan and add these pieces.
  • Add some tulsi leaves, grated ginger, cinnamon stick and fennel seeds.
  • Boil it on a low flame for approximately four to five minutes till it reduces to two-thirds of the amount.
  • Switch off and cover it for about two to three minutes.
  • Strain and pour it. Add some honey and stir it well. 
  • You can also have some oat and ragi cookies with the tea. 
  • You can also add maple syrup in place of honey. 
  • Your herbal giloy tea is ready to healthify you!

  • Autoimmune diseases: Giloy may overpower the functioning of the immune system, which could cause autoimmune disorders. These are rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and lupus.
  • During or after surgery: During or after the process of any surgery, giloy interferes with blood sugar levels. So, only take it before two weeks of the schedule.
  • Allergy: Use it after a medical consultation. It might cause an allergy.
  • Breastfeeding: There is a lack of scientific evidence of breastfeeding and the use of Giloy simultaneously. Hence, don’t use giloy during the lactation period.
  • Anti-diabetic drugs: Monitor your blood glucose level if you take anti-diabetic drugs. Avoid giloy as it may lower your blood glucose level.
  • Pregnancy: Just like breastfeeding, there is no scientific evidence related to pregnancy and the use of giloy. Therefore, it is not recommended to consume it.
  • Short-term use: Giloy is effective when you use it for the short term and in recommended dosage.
  • Juice – 2-3 teaspoons of juice, once or twice a day.
  • Churna – ¼-½ teaspoon of giloy churna twice a day.
  • Giloy Tablet – 1-2 giloy tablets twice a day.
  • Capsule – 1-2 giloy capsules twice a day.
