Wash and soak the tuwar dal in water for about 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds.
Add the chopped tomatoes and sauté until they are soft.
Add the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and amchur powder. Sauté for a few seconds.
Add the soaked tuwar dal and mix well.
Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste.
Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 3-4 whistles.
Once the pressure is released, open the lid and mash the dal with the back of a spoon.
Add the chopped green chillies and mix well.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
