peeled and chopped turai (ridge gourd)

2 cups

onion, finely chopped


green chillies, finely chopped


cumin seeds

1 teaspoon

coriander powder

1 teaspoon

turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon

red chilli powder

1/2 teaspoon

garam masala

1/2 teaspoon


2 tablespoons

Salt to taste



Step 1:

Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.

Step 2:

Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.

Step 3:

Add the chopped onion and fry until it turns golden brown.

Step 4:

Add the chopped green chillies and fry for a few seconds.

Step 5:

Add the chopped turai and fry for a few minutes.

Step 6:

Add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and garam masala.

Step 7:

Fry for a few minutes until the spices are well blended.

Step 8:

Add salt to taste and mix well.

Step 9:

Cover the pan and cook for 10-15 minutes until the turai is cooked through.

Step 10:

Serve hot with chapatis or rice.
