Wash and soak the tur dal in water for about 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and ginger-garlic paste.
Add the chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.
Add the chopped tomatoes and green chillies and sauté for a few minutes.
Add the soaked tur dal and salt to taste.
Add 2 cups of water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
Once the pressure is released, open the lid and mash the dal with a spoon.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
