Tomato Chatni is a spicy condiment made from tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and a variety of spices. It is a popular accompaniment to Indian dishes such as idli, dosa and chapatis. The chatni is usually made with fresh ripe tomatoes, but canned tomatoes can also be used. The tomatoes are cooked with garlic, ginger, and a variety of spices such as cumin, coriander, turmeric, and chili powder and then blended into a smooth paste. Tomato chutney is an excellent source of beta carotenes and fiber.
