Heat oil and ghee in a pan.
Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and ginger-garlic paste. Saute for a few seconds.
Add the toor dal, chana dal and urad dal. Saute for a few minutes.
Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala. Saute for a few minutes.
Add the tamarind paste and jaggery. Mix well.
Add the white rice and mix well.
Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste.
Cover the pan and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with raita or pickle.
