Ingredients

toor dal (split pigeon peas), soaked

water

3 cups

turmeric powder

1 teaspoon

salt

1 teaspoon

oil

2 tablespoons

cumin seeds

1 teaspoon

onion, finely chopped

garlic, minced

2 cloves

ginger, grated

1 tablespoon

green chili, chopped

1

tomato, chopped

1

garam masala

1/2 teaspoon

Coriander leaves for garnish

Directions

Step 1:

Rinse the dal until the water runs clear and soak it for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2:

In a pressure cooker, add the dal, water, turmeric, and salt. Cook on high heat until the dal is tender.

Step 3:

In a pan, heat the oil and add the cumin seeds. Once the seeds crackle, add the onion, garlic, ginger, and green chili. Saute until the onions are golden brown. 4.Add the tomatoes and cook until soft.

Step 4:

Add the cooked dal to the pan and mix well. Add the garam masala and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

Step 5:

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
