Wash and soak the rice and dal together for 15 minutes.
Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
Add chopped tomato, green chilli, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and garam masala. Sauté for a few minutes.
Add the soaked rice and dal and mix well.
Add salt and 2 cups of water.
Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 3-4 whistles.
Once the pressure is released, open the lid and fluff the khichdi with a fork.
Serve hot with raita or pickle.
