Ingredients

white rice

1 cup

split yellow lentils (dal)

1/2 cup

cumin seeds

1 teaspoon

mustard seeds

1 teaspoon

turmeric powder

1 teaspoon

red chili powder

1 teaspoon

garam masala

1 teaspoon

salt

1 teaspoon

oil

2 tablespoons

water

2 cups

Directions

Step 1:

Wash the rice and dal together in a bowl and set aside.

Step 2:

Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Step 3:

Add the cumin and mustard seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.

Step 4:

Add the turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt and stir for a few seconds.

Step 5:

Add the rice and dal and stir to combine.

Step 6:

Add the water and bring to a boil.

Step 7:

Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot.

Step 8:

Simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice and dal are cooked through.

Step 9:

Serve hot with your favorite accompaniments. Enjoy!
