Wash the red gram dal and soak it in water for 15 minutes.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala.
Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds.
Add the chopped onion, green chillies and tomato and sauté for a few minutes.
Add the soaked red gram dal and salt to taste.
Add 2 cups of water and close the lid of the pressure cooker.
Cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dal is cooked.
Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
