Rajma (Red Kidney Beans)

2 cups


1 tablespoons

cumin seeds

1 teaspoon

ginger-garlic paste

1 teaspoon

onion, finely chopped


tomatoes, finely chopped


coriander powder

1 teaspoon

cumin powder

1 teaspoon

red chilli powder

1 teaspoon

garam masala

1/2 teaspoon

Salt to taste

chopped coriander leaves

2 tablespoons



Step 1:

Soak the Rajma overnight in enough water.

Step 2:

Drain the water and pressure cook the Rajma with 2 cups of water for 4-5 whistles.

Step 3:

Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.

Step 4:

When the cumin seeds start to crackle, add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds.

Step 5:

Add the chopped onion and sauté till it turns golden brown.

Step 6:

Add the chopped tomatoes and cook till they become soft and mushy.

Step 7:

Add the coriander powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder and garam masala and mix well.

Step 8:

Add the cooked Rajma and mix well.

Step 9:

Add salt to taste and mix well.

Step 10:

Cook for 5-7 minutes on low flame.

Step 11:

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with chapatis or rice.
