Rinse and soak the dals in water for 30 minutes.
Drain the water and transfer the dals to a pressure cooker.
Add 2 cups of water, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder, amchur powder, and salt.
Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dals are cooked.
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dried red chilies, garlic, and ginger.
Saute for a few seconds.
Add onion and saute until it turns golden brown.
Add tomatoes and cook until they are soft.
Add the cooked dals and mix well.
Simmer for 5-7 minutes or until the dal is thick and creamy.
Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
