Rinse the lentils in a colander and set aside.
Heat the ghee in a large pot over medium heat.
Add the cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds and cook for 1 minute.
Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder, amchur powder, and asafoetida and cook for 1 minute.
Add the lentils and stir to combine.
Add the salt and water and bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve hot with rice or roti. Enjoy!
