Heat the oil in a pan and add the onions, cook until golden brown.
Add the garlic and ginger and cook for another minute or two.
Add the spices and continue to cook for a further minute, stirring constantly.
If using meat, add now and cook until brown on all sides. For vegetarian options add later.
Mix in the yogurt, cream, and a little water if needed.
Reduce heat to low, cover and leave to simmer for about 20 minutes.
If vegetarian, add your chosen veggies or paneer now and cook until tender.
Season with salt to taste and serve with rice or naan bread.
