Step 1:

Cook the dal with turmeric powder and salt until it becomes soft.

Step 2:

In another pot, cook the vegetables with salt until they are tender.

Step 3:

Prepare the spice mix by roasting and grinding the given ingredients.

Step 4:

Mix the cooked dal, vegetables, and the spice mix together and boil for a few minutes.

Step 5:

In a small pan, heat oil for tempering and add the given ingredients.

Step 6:

Once the mustard seeds start spluttering, add this tempering to the dal-vegetable mixture.

Step 7:

Serve the Kootu hot with rice.
