Soak the black chickpeas overnight in water.
Drain the water and pressure cook the chickpeas for 3-4 whistles.
Heat oil in a pan and add the chopped onions. Saute until they turn golden brown.
Add the minced garlic and ginger and saute for a minute.
Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and amchur powder. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
Add the cooked chickpeas and mix well.
Add 1/2 cup of water and bring it to a boil.
Simmer the gravy for 10-15 minutes.
Add the chopped cilantro and salt to taste.
Serve hot with chapatis or rice.
