Rinse the basmati rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in plenty of water for at least 30 minutes, then drain.
Heat the ghee or butter in a pan over medium heat.
Once the ghee has melted, add the cumin seeds and sauté for a minute or until they start to brown and release their aroma.
Add the drained rice to the pan and stir to combine. Sauté the rice for two minutes, ensuring that every grain of rice is coated with ghee.
Add the water and salt, stir, and bring the mixture to a boil.
Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let the rice simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked through and all the water has been absorbed.
Once the rice is cooked, fluff it gently with a fork.
Serve the Jeera Rice hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves if desired.
