Directions

Step 1:

Rinse the basmati rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in plenty of water for at least 30 minutes, then drain.

Step 2:

Heat the ghee or butter in a pan over medium heat.

Step 3:

Once the ghee has melted, add the cumin seeds and sauté for a minute or until they start to brown and release their aroma.

Step 4:

Add the drained rice to the pan and stir to combine. Sauté the rice for two minutes, ensuring that every grain of rice is coated with ghee.

Step 5:

Add the water and salt, stir, and bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 6:

Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let the rice simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked through and all the water has been absorbed.

Step 7:

Once the rice is cooked, fluff it gently with a fork.

Step 8:

Serve the Jeera Rice hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves if desired.
