Chana Masala, also known as Channay, Chole Masala, Chholay, is a popular dish from the Indian subcontinent. The main ingredient is chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans). It is fairly dry and spicy with a sour citrus note. The dish is typically served with bread (roti, naan or poori) or rice.

Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, bay leaves and green chillies.
Add the chopped onions and cook till they are golden brown.
Add the tomato puree, grated ginger, and spices (turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala). Cook for 5-6 minutes.
Next, add the boiled chickpeas and salt. Mix well so that the chickpeas are nicely coated with the masala.
Cook for 10-15 minutes on low heat.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or rice.
