Rinse the tuvar dal thoroughly and transfer it to a pressure cooker.
Add water, turmeric, and salt to the cooker.
Cover the cooker and cook the dal on medium heat until it's tender.
Meanwhile, heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.
Once the seeds start to splutter, add onions and garlic and sauté until they become translucent.
Add tomatoes, garam masala, and chilli powder to the pan and cook until the tomatoes become soft.
Add the cooked and mashed dal to the pan, and mix well.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
