masoor dal (red lentils)

1 cup

cumin seeds

1 teaspoon

turmeric powder

1 teaspoon

coriander powder

1 teaspoon

garam masala

1 teaspoon

red chili powder

1 teaspoon

amchur powder (dried mango powder)

1 teaspoon

salt

1 teaspoon

oil

2 tablespoons

ginger

1 teaspoon

garlic paste

onion, finely chopped

tomatoes, finely chopped

coriander leaves, finely chopped

Directions

Step 1:

Wash and soak the masoor dal in water for 30 minutes.

Step 2:

Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.

Step 3:

Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds.

Step 4:

Add onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.

Step 5:

Add tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, amchur powder, and salt. Sauté for a few minutes.

Step 6:

Add the soaked masoor dal and 2 cups of water.

Step 7:

Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 3-4 whistles.

Step 8:

Once the pressure is released, open the lid and mash the dal with a spoon.

Step 9:

Add cumin powder and coriander leaves. Mix well.

Step 10:

Cook for a few minutes until the dal reaches the desired consistency.

Step 11:

Serve hot with steamed rice or roti. Enjoy!
