Chilli Potato



Chilli Potato is a spicy dish from the indo-Chinese cuisine. It is made by deep-frying potatoes and then tossing them in a spicy chili sauce. The potatoes are usually cut into cubes or wedges and then fried until golden brown. The chili sauce is usually made with a combination of garlic, green chilies, onions, spring onions, chilli sauce and soya sauce. The dish is usually served as an appetizer or as a snack.

medium potatoes, peeled and cubed


vegetable oil

2 tablespoons

cumin seeds

1 teaspoon

mustard seeds

1 teaspoon

fennel seeds

1 teaspoon

coriander powder

1 teaspoon

turmeric powder

1 teaspoon

red chilli powder

1 teaspoon

garam masala

1 teaspoon

amchur powder

1 teaspoon


1 teaspoon

chopped coriander leaves

2 tablespoons

green chillies, chopped




Step 1:

Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Step 2:

Add the cumin, mustard and fennel seeds and fry for a few seconds until they start to crackle.

Step 3:

Add the potatoes and fry for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 4:

Add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, amchur powder and salt.

Step 5:

Stir to combine and fry for a further 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6:

Add the chopped coriander leaves and green chillies and fry for a further 2 minutes.

Step 7:

Serve hot with chapatis or rice.
