Soak the green gram in water for at least 4 hours.
Drain the water and pressure cook with salt for 2 whistles. Set aside.
Grind coconut with cumin seeds and green chillies.
Heat the coconut oil in a pan over medium heat.
Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add the chopped onion and curry leaves and sauté until the onion is golden brown.
Add the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and ground coconut and mix well.
Add the boiled green gram and cook for 10 minutes, adding water if desired.
Serve hot with red rice.
