Ingredients

basmati rice

1 cup

split yellow lentils (toor dal)

1 cup

cumin seeds

1 teaspoon

turmeric powder

1 teaspoon

red chili powder

1 teaspoon

garam masala

1 teaspoon

coriander powder

1 teaspoon

amchur powder

1 teaspoon

salt

1 teaspoon

ghee

2 tablespoons

oil

2 tablespoons

ginger

1 teaspoon

garlic paste

onion, finely chopped

green chilies, finely chopped

tomatoes, finely chopped

kasuri methi

1 teaspoon

chopped cilantro

Directions

Step 1:

Wash and soak the basmati rice and toor dal in separate bowls for 30 minutes.

Step 2:

Heat ghee and oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.

Step 3:

Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds.

Step 4:

Add chopped onion and green chilies and sauté until the onion turns golden brown.

Step 5:

Add chopped tomatoes and sauté until they become soft.

Step 6:

Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder, amchur powder, and salt. Mix well and sauté for a few minutes.

Step 7:

Add the soaked basmati rice and toor dal and mix well.

Step 8:

Add 3 cups of water and mix well.

Step 9:

Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistles.

Step 10:

Once the pressure is released, open the lid and fluff the rice with a fork.

Step 11:

Add kasuri methi and chopped cilantro and mix well.

Step 12:

Serve hot with raita or pickle.
