Soak the chana dal in water for at least 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves and ginger-garlic paste.
Add the chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.
Add the chopped tomatoes and green chillies and sauté for a few minutes.
Add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, amchur powder and salt.
Add the soaked chana dal and mix well.
Add 1/2 cup of water and cover the pan with a lid.
Cook on low heat for about 15-20 minutes or until the dal is cooked.
Serve hot with chapati or rice.
