Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the ground beef, onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is cooked through and the onion is softened, about 8 minutes.
Toast the hamburger buns in a toaster or on the skillet.
Place the cooked beef on the bottom buns and top with cheese.
Add lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, and mustard (if desired).
