large bottle gourd (doodhi/lauki)


onion, finely chopped


tomato, finely chopped


cumin seeds

1 teaspoon

coriander powder

1 teaspoon

turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon

red chilli powder

1/2 teaspoon

garam masala

1/2 teaspoon

amchur powder

1 teaspoon


1 teaspoon

Salt to taste



Step 1:

Peel and cut the bottle gourd into small cubes.

Step 2:

Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.

Step 3:

When the cumin seeds start to crackle, add the chopped onion and sauté till it turns golden brown.

Step 4:

Add the chopped tomato and sauté for a few minutes.

Step 5:

Add the bottle gourd cubes, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, amchur powder and salt.

Step 6:

Mix everything together and cook on low heat for about 10 minutes or until the bottle gourd is cooked.

Step 7:

Serve hot with chapatis or rice.
