Wash and dry the bhindi. Cut off the ends and slit them lengthwise.
Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When they start to crackle, add the chopped onions and fry till they turn golden brown.
Add the chopped tomatoes, green chillies, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala. Fry for a few minutes.
Add the bhindi and salt to taste. Mix well and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve hot with chapatis or rice.
