beans (any variety)

1 cup

grated coconut

1/2 cup

mustard seeds

1/2 teaspoon

cumin seeds

1/2 teaspoon

turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon

chilli powder

1/2 teaspoon

garam masala

1/2 teaspoon

coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon


1/4 teaspoon


2 tablespoons


1/2 teaspoon

Salt to taste

chopped coriander leaves

2 tablespoons



Step 1:

Wash and soak the beans in water for about an hour.

Step 2:

Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida and turmeric powder.

Step 3:

Add the soaked beans and sauté for a few minutes.

Step 4:

Add chilli powder, garam masala, coriander powder, sugar and salt.

Step 5:

Add the grated coconut and mix well.

Step 6:

Cover and cook on low heat for about 10 minutes or until the beans are cooked.

Step 7:

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
