Appe, also known as Paniyaram, Paddu, or Gunta Ponganalu, is a popular South Indian snack made from a fermented batter of rice and lentils. This delicious and healthy snack is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is usually served hot with chutney or sambar. It's a perfect dish for breakfast or tea-time. In a mixing bowl, take the idli or dosa batter.
Add chopped onion, green chilli, coriander leaves and salt to the batter. Mix well.
Add baking soda and mix again.
Heat the Appe pan and add some ghee or oil in the cavities.
Pour the batter into each cavity of the Appe pan.
Cover and cook on a low flame until the base is nicely golden and the top part gets cooked due to the steam.
Once the base is golden, flip the Appe with a stick or spoon.
Cook all sides until golden and crisp.
Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
