Soak the urad dal in water for at least 4 hours.
Drain the water and grind the urad dal into a fine paste.
Heat the oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds, black pepper, asafoetida and salt.
Add the ground urad dal paste and mix well.
Cook the mixture on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring continuously.
Remove from heat and spread the mixture on a greased plate.
Sprinkle the sesame seeds on top and press lightly.
Cut into desired shapes and deep fry in hot oil until golden brown.
Serve hot with chutney or sambar. Enjoy!
