Baked Ragi Chakli

A chakli is great evening snack that is best accompanied with tea. Though great for munching, they do not fall into the category of a healthy munchy. But, a Baked Ragi Chakl is definately a healthy alternative to the traditional one. It is baked, so you cut down on a lot of calories and who would have thought ragi to be a replacement for rice flour. With this recipe taste and health goes hand it hand.

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup Ragi flour
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • A pinch of asafoetids
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Water for binding

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to a 180 degree celsius.
  • Take a large mixing bowl and combine ragi and wheat flour with sesame seeds, salt, chilli powder, and asafoetida/hing.
  • Add the yoghurt and water mixture to form a malleable dough.
  • Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil and pour it into the dough.
  • Next, prepare the sheet pan and place a butter paper over it.
  • Using a chakli press, press out round swirls from the center to the edges onto the butter paper.
  • Bake for 20 minutes in a preheated oven, then flip and bake for another 10 minutes.
  • Allow it cool completely before storing in an airtight container and have a happy snack.
